Set up alerts

Where alerts go, how to add Slack, Teams, Discord, Telegram, webhooks and SMS, and when you get one.

Every plan sends alerts by e-mail. Solo and Team add chat apps and webhooks; Team adds SMS.

When you get an alert

  • Down: after a failed check is confirmed by a second check 15 seconds later.
  • Back up: when the site answers again, with the length of the outage.
  • Update stuck: when WordPress maintenance mode lasts longer than 15 minutes.
  • Broken after an update: when a site fails right after a plugin or core update (Update Guard).
  • WP-Cron stopped: when scheduled tasks have not run for too long.
  • SSL and domain: 30, 14, 7 and 1 day before a certificate or domain expires.

Short maintenance, backups and our own plugin updates do not send alerts.

E-mail addresses

Alerts go only to addresses that have been confirmed with one click. Add or change addresses in Settings → Alerts.

Chat apps and webhooks

  1. Open Settings → Alerts and add a channel.
  2. Choose Slack, Microsoft Teams, Discord, Telegram or Webhook and paste the address from that app.
  3. Click Send test alert to check that it arrives.

A webhook receives a signed JSON message; see Webhooks for the format and how to check the signature.

SMS

Team includes 30 SMS alerts a month. Add a phone number as a channel in Settings → Alerts and confirm it with the code we send. SMS go only to countries on our allowed list, which protects your credit from abuse. When the month's credit is used up, alerts continue by the other channels.

Weekly summary

Everyone gets a short weekly e-mail with uptime, outages and certificates or domains that expire soon. You can turn it off in Settings → Profile.
